k.d. lang
Over the last twenty years, k.d. lang has lent her voice to an astonishing range of material, from Nashville tearjerkers to Tin Pan Alley torch songs, from playful cow-punk tunes to sultry grown-up pop. Her most recent album, Hymns of the 49th Parallel, pays tribute to her native country Canada by juxtaposing classics from iconic Canadian artists who were her inspirations with equally brilliant material from contemporary performers.
A multi Grammy Award-winner, she's recorded more than thirteen albums, including collections of straight up country (Shadowland), urbane adult pop (Ingenue, which featured the hit "Constant Craving"), sophisticated torch (Drag), and just a little disco (for the soundtrack of Gus Van Sant's Even Cowgirls Get the Blues). Hymns of the 49th Parallel illustrates lang's impeccable taste and reveals the deepest roots of her craft.

New Album 'Songs Of Mass Destruction' to be Released October 2nd 2007

NEW YORK, July 18 PRNewswire — Multi-million selling, iconic artist Annie Lennox will release her fourth solo album, "Songs Of Mass Destruction," on October 2nd, 2007 through Arista Records. The album was recorded in London Los Angeles and Miami with veteran producer Glen Ballard (of Alanis Morissette's 'Jagged Little Pill' fame).
In a career that has spanned over 25 years, including the 15 years since Annie released her first solo album, Diva, no other British female artist has achieved so much recognition. Over 78 million in global sales, and 33 hit singles compliment the 4 Grammies, 11 BRITS, 5 Ivor Novellos, the Oscar, and the 2 Golden Globes amongst other accolades.
"Songs Of Mass Destruction" showcases an artist who is unafraid of pushing boundaries and challenging herself. Annie delivers thought provoking and intelligent lyrics matched with her distinctive pop sound. She says that this album is the closest she's been so far to that authentically raw and emotional place, infused with the contrasts of beauty, yearning and sadness. The result, from the haunting introductory song, 'Dark Road' to the closing epic, 'Fingernail Moon', is a sumptuous musical soundscape within which Annie's soulful voice shines and soars.
In addition to being an incredibly successful artist, Annie is a celebrated activist and humanitarian. The new album features the soaring and powerful feminist anthem 'Sing', born out of Annie's involvement with Nelson Mandela's 46664 and Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) — organizations fighting for human rights, education and health care for those affected by the HIV AIDS virus. The track 'Sing' features 23 of the most recognized and successful female solo artists in the world, invited by Annie, to raise awareness and finances for TAC initiatives. Included among the group are superstars such as Madonna, Sarah McLachlan, Celine Dion, Fergie, Faith Hill, Pink, Dido, Gladys night, k.d. lang, Angelique Kidjo, Bonnie Raitt, Shakira, Melissa Etheridge, Anastasia, Joss Stone, KT Tunstall and many others, as well as TAC activist members own vocal group known as 'The Genetics', whose CD of music inspired Annie to make 'Sing' a reality.

PROPELLERHEADS have collaborated with RUFUS WAINWRIGHT, DEBBIE HARRY and KD LANG on songs for their new album. The duo, Alex Gifford and Will White, are still working on the follow-up to 1998's 'Decksandrumsandrockandroll'. Speaking in the US, Gifford said that the band have been scrapping material because it didn't sound "fresh" enough to be worthy of release. He commented: "I guess you could say we've been experimenting. About the time the last record came out, it just seemed (there was) a saturation of similar kinds of music so we just started to poke around in slightly different directions to see what we could come up with. "We ended up nearly finishing a record a couple of times, but both times decided it wasn't really that fresh and there's no point of doing more of the same." Following the success of the collaboration with Shirley Bassey on the single 'History Repeating', Gifford said they have recorded a song called 'Welcome Home' with Rufus Wainwright and KD Lang - and are hoping to work with Blondie star Debbie Harry. Speaking about Harry, he told Rolling Stone: "She's such a sweetheart and such an icon, and I think I've got an amazing song for her. The thing is to write songs for people, for that singer particularly, that not only suits their voice, but their personality. Like try to imagine their ideal song. With 'History Repeating', I tried to imagine what Shirley Bassey's ideal song would be now . . . and tried to write that."
Artist Description for Propellerheads
Propellerheads is a British big beat music band made up of electronic producers Will White and Alex Gifford. The term "Propellerhead" is californian slang for a computer nerd, and when Gifford and White heard a friend from California drop this into conversation, they thought it the perfect name for their band.
Their first release was an EP named Dive!, published in 1996 through independent label wall of sound. They gained fame the next year by providing a remix for Bond composer David Arnold's Bond tribute album Shaken & Stirred covering John Barry's On Her Majesty's Secret Service, the theme song to the sixth James Bond film, re-orchestrated by Arnold. The single "History Repeating" followed, a collaboration with jazz diva Shirley Bassey, fusing big beat with jazz.
Their only album to date is Decksandrumsandrockandroll, released in 1998 by Wall of Sound in the UK and Europe and DreamWorks in the US and Japan. The Dreamworks versions include collaborations with hip hop veterans De La Soul and Jungle Brothers, and the Japanese version is a sought-after 2 Disc Special Edition including some of their earlier singles. A track from the album, "Spybreak!", became widely known after its use in the famous lobby scene in The Matrix.
After touring for their hit album, Will White fell ill. They released Extended Play EP in 1998, and in the song "Props' Vote Of Gratitude", Alex Gifford raps for the first time, explaining to the attentive listener that the band would "be back after this short break". Things subsequently went quiet in the Propellerheads camp. Alex moved to New York and produced the Jungle Brothers 1999 Album V.I.P. In which he raps alongside The Black Eyed Peas among others and Will White provides the drums for the eponymous track. He has also produced a track for Rufus Wainwright ("Shadows") on his 2001 album Poses. White has since released a mix compilation for the Beatz and Bobz series, and he has also appeared as a member of the De-Fex music project.
In October 2003 Wall of Sound commemorated its 10th birthday, and to celebrate, released a two disc album charting 10 years of its pioneering British music. The first CD featured alumni such as Röyksopp, The Wiseguys and Mekon, while Gifford provided a mix CD for the second disc. Surprisingly the first track on that disc was a new song by Propellerheads featuring British rapper Livingroom Johnston, entitled "10 Years", a cool, laid back funky tune with a catchy riff, that might give an indication about the Propellerheads' forthcoming album.
Gifford and White have reportedly been close to finishing "that difficult second album" for a while now, but have scrapped material they did not believe was fresh or new enough to warrant release. Their next album will apparently feature duets from Rufus Wainwright and k.d. lang among others, but WoS has no projected release date.
They have had their share of problems but they are suppose to continue and the project is not closed nor further ones in the works.

Music Superstars Join Al Gore For Climate Concerts
http://liveearth.org/who_we_are.html

kd lang and al and tipper go a long way and tipper even said she would consider leaving al for k.d. lang. she has supported them in the past and may again given her schedule but hope a record/concert gets in the way.

LOS ANGELES (February 15, 2007) -- Al Gore announced on Thursday a series of worldwide concerts to focus on the threat of climate change, with a powerhouse lineup from the Red Hot Chili Peppers to Snoop Dogg to Bon Jovi.
The 24-hour event on July 7 is part of a campaign, Save Our Selves -- The Campaign for a Climate in Crisis, that promoters hope will trigger a broad movement to address what the former vice president calls a global climate crisis.
"In order to solve the climate crisis, we have to reach billions of people," the environmental activist, filmmaker and 2000 Democratic presidential nominee said in a statement. "The climate crisis will only be stopped by an unprecedented and sustained global movement."
Gore is often mentioned as a possible presidential candidate in 2008 despite his repeated statements that he's not running. Recently, some former aides met in Boston to discuss a campaign to draft the former vice president.
The concerts on seven continents will bring newfound publicity to Gore, who already is enjoying celebrity status with his Oscar-nominated documentary, "An Inconvenient Truth." Gore said he was thrilled that the film, on the perils of global warming, was nominated for best documentary and for best song, the latter nod coming for Melissa Etheridge's "I Need to Wake Up."
The Academy Awards are Feb. 25.
More than 100 performers are scheduled to appear at the July concerts, including Etheridge, the Foo Fighters, Lenny Kravitz, Sheryl Crow, John Mayer, Duran Duran, Korn, Pharrell, the Black Eyed Peas, Akon, Enrique Iglesias, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw.
Promoters said the Live Earth concerts will take place in Shanghai, China; Johannesburg, South Africa; Sydney, Australia; London and cities to be announced in Japan, Brazil and the United States.
Promoters said the concerts -- dubbed Live Earth -- could reach 2 billion people through attendance or broadcasts. Proceeds will create a foundation to combat climate change led by The Alliance for Climate Protection, which is chaired by Gore.
The Save our Selves campaign was founded by Kevin Wall, who won an Emmy as Worldwide Executive Producer of Live 8.
