Grammy award-winning Canadian singer-songwriter kd lang pays tribute to her favourite Canadian songwriters, including Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Jane Siberry, Ron Sexsmith and Neil Young.

The singer-songwriter, who has described herself in song as the big-boned girl from Alberta, is in her home town of Edmonton. Here, in the Sidetrack Cafe, where she performed with her raucous band The Reclines, she talks about her early forays into music. Against the background of Alberta Scene, when hundreds of musicians flock to Edmonton during April and May, kd introduces some of her favourites; Nelly Furtado, Doc Walker and the McDades.

Grammy award-winning Canadian singer-songwriter kd lang continues to pay tribute to her favourite Canadian songwriters, including Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Jane Siberry, Ron Sexsmith and Neil Young.

Moving east across the prairie, kd enters Saskatchewan – Joni Mitchell territory. She's a Joni fan, describing her as an "incredible talent" who "sprung on the music stage fully formed". Joni's lyrics are "seemingly ordinary stories that you can picture as though you know the person she's singing about personally," says kd.
