k.d. lang's new album, Watershed, was released on Tuesday. Recorded in California, Watershed is the first album of newly written material from the four-time GRAMMY® winner since 2000’s Invincible Summer and her first studio album since 2004's acclaimed Canadian songbook, Hymns Of The 49th Parallel. A fourteen-city US tour begins February 23 and includes a rare three-night stand at Lincoln Center’s Allen Room as part of the American Songbook series.

As the title suggests, Watershed represents a milestone in k.d. lang’s groundbreaking 25-year career. For the first time she has assumed the role of producer – as well as writer, singer, and multi-instrumentalist -- for this album of eleven new songs. lang reunited with longtime collaborators from both the studio and the road on the album: pianist Teddy Borowiecki, bassist David Piltch, steel player Greg Leisz, and guitarist Ben Mink. Jon Hassell makes a guest appearance on trumpet, as does new Nonesuch labelmate Noam Pikelny, banjo player for the Punch Brothers.

Watershed marks a turning point for lang as a producer, band leader and self-assured songwriter. For all those who listen, it will simply be the fulfillment of a promise made long ago, at that unforgettable moment when we first heard her sing.

k.d. lang on the culture show feb. 9 bbc radio

The next edition of the BBC’s Culture Show (Saturday 9th at 6.55pm on BBC2) will feature an interview with Persepolis creator Marjane Satrapi, who seems to be taking the entire world by storm with the animated film adaptation of her own graphic novels. Non comics items on the same show include an interview with KD Lang and a look at the legend of Saint Sebastian in art, so I’m guessing there will be a fair bit of homoerotic classical artwork on show too; full details can be found on the Culture Show’s bit of the BBC website.

As she kick-starts her world tour in Glasgow, iconic Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter KD Lang gives a rare interview to Verity Sharp.

Sat Feb 09 18:55, 50 minutes The Culture Show on BBC 2W JG Ballard talks to Mark Kermode, Sebastian Horsley looks at the legend of St Sebastian, Tim Samuels tracks down his childhood hero Morrissey and Verity Sharp interviews KD Lang.

Win a Trip to see K.D. Lang in Concert in Sydney
Mike Hosking Show until 15th February 2008
Tune to the Mike Hosking Show on Saturday morning and you could be in Sydney's State Theatre at K.D. Lang's 'Watershed' concert. The concert is in April 2008, and the prize includes Flight, transfers, and 3 nights accomodation for two.
But that's not all! We also have consolation prizes of her new album 'Watershed' to give away.
As the title suggests, Watershed represents a milestone in K.D. Lang's already extraordinary career. For the first time, she has assumed, on her own, the role of producer - as well as writer, singer and multi-instrumentalist -- for this album of new original songs. The result is perhaps lang's most confident and revealing work, with gorgeous arrangements featuring strings and guitars; distilled lyrics that come across as intimate reveries; and warm, understated, and often very sexy vocal performances.
